Who we are

We are local people from the ennis road area of the north side of Limerick city. Our backgrounds vary wildly, some volunteers are in part-time or full-time education, many others work, some are retired and we are all very passionate about helping members of our local community.

The two founding members of the Ennis Road Community First Responders group are Robert Simring and Noel Kerley. Both are residents of the ennis road area of Limerick city and saw the need to create a community first responder group in the north side of Limerick city.

February 2018 they started plans to recruit and train volunteers. They worked with the National Ambulance Service to set up the group and in June 2018 Ennis Road CFR went live.

Over the following six months of 2018 the group continued to grow with more volunteers recruited and trained before ‘going live’. The group has celebrated its first year of operations and continues to go from strength to strength.

HOW IT WORKS

  • We receive a text from the National Ambulance Service to assist with a patient who is choking or experiencing a stroke, heart attack or cardiac arrest.

  • Because we live locally, we aim to get to the patient within 8 minutes.

  • We assist the patient (and family) while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

  • We handover care to the ambulance service staff and help in any other way we can.
